alrighty. finally decided to sit down and do an update. here goes. warning about a lot of crap and more crap.
watched "pirates of the caribbean" on wednesday with duan hui. omg!!!! it's so cool!!!!!! the bloody critics are SO wrong about that film. it was 2 and 1/2 hrs long but it did not feel like that. i was totally like glued to the screen. loved it. it's really such a brainless entertainment flick. spoilers ahead. missed the first 5 minutes cos girlfriend was late. :p so i have no idea what led up to jack being thrown into the ocean in a coffin. but, it was cool. norrington looks so different. i prefer him in the first show. will and elizabeth, the less said, the better. never liked them anyway. i like that new character, the one that plays the role of an oracle. don't know who she is, but she's an interesting character. and what's with the undead monkey anyway?! well, i'll admit that the storyline was a little crazy. but, heck. who cares about the story line anyway. movies like these, you go in to be entertained. full action from front to end. oh ya, the only part i think i could like about elizabeth is when she handcuffed jack to the black pearl. lol! davey jones is ok. bit unbelieveable. i mean, how did ordinary looking people whom he pressed into his service for a hundred years, start growing barnacles on their cheeks, or look like a hammerhead shark? there were it's funny moments, that were really hilarious. there were moments when the audience was screaming also. but, i don't know what was so scary. gives you a shock lah, when the character turns round and suddenly there's something behind it, but i don't think it warrents a full fledged scream. i'm proud to say that duan hui was not one of those who screamed out loud. and i don't think the end part was that much of a cliffhanger. i mean, it was a pleasant surprise that barbosa reappeared, reunited with his darling monkey and apple. :D but, i think, it was an ok ending. it closed off this part of the movie and effectively links it to the next sequel. so, ya, i was satisfied with the ending.
just one thing that spoilt the movie for me, at least the front part. apart from missing the first five minutes that is. there was this group of students next to me, eating something that was deep fried. oh. my. god. the smell stank sia! imagine the smell of stale grease. oh god! the movie was already dizzifying enough, what with them rolling around in that ball-cage. that smell really made me wanna throw up. had to lean way over to duan hui's side to escape the smell as much as possible. thank god, they finished eating somewhere half way through the movie and canned the smell. geez. someone from the theatre should enforce the rule about food in the theatres. deep fried oil smell in the middle of the theatre is NOT a pleasant experience.
moving on. clay aiken's new cd. rumoured date september 19. and it's kinda confirmed september liao. yay! can't wait for it to come out. the title is also confirmed. ATDW - A Thousand Different Ways. cool. theo sent me his blog the other day. he had just finished a photoshoot for ATDW. apparently it had something to do with indoor waterfalls, backdrop of LA city and frank sinatra. supposed to created a romantic atmosphere cos the new cd apparently is gonna include a collection of love songs. *g* anyway, a studio version of 1000 days was found on limewire. and of course claynation went wild. i think it was ok. i preferred the concert version, cos there's more feeling in it. but anyway, clay found out about it. and he commented about it on his blog. under the "listening to" section, he says he's listening to "a bad bootleg copy of 1000 days". cute. if that's a bad copy, i wonder what a good copy sounds like. counting down the days. i should try calculating. has it been 1000 days since MOAM?
talking about clay reminds me. if you are scarlett/scarlett120 who commented in my earlier post, can you PLEASE leave a contact email or something. i can't find you on CB and i'm not a member of the rest. would like to talk things out with you. thanks.
wanted to mention. the other day, baby's birthday, me and bro were looking for barney pictures online to make her a 'card'. and we came across lots of anti-barney sites. the one we looked at was the wikipedia entry. lol at the anti-barney songs. sample: "i love you, you love me, homosexuality". my favourite adjusted version, "with a shoot shoot bang bang, barney on the floor, no more purple dinosaur." muahahahahahaha! poor barney.
and school choir has started. back to the horrific late nights, reaching home at 11 plus. geez. i really have to adjust my timetable to have a late start to tuesday and friday. anyway, choir was ok. not the full choir tho. practicing for the FIC and workshop now. quite easy lah since most of the songs already sung during commencement. i'm liking "sigulempong" more and more. of course, ppl still have this annoying habit of starting to trickle in at 6.45 when practice is supposed to start at 6.30. you'd think by uni level ppl would have grown out of that bad habit.
learnt a new song last night. called "night and day". it's kinda a weird song, alto part on its own. but when you combine. woah! apparently it has a "tea for two" feeling to it. funny incident. we were all doing ok, until the back part. adyll was just playing on the keyboard, letting us try and sight sing. UNTIL we came to the part of the phrase, "till you let me spend my life making love to you", we all just cut and trailed into silence. this goes to prove. my generation is NOT becoming overly liberal. we just stopped there and giggled. geez. and the worse part is that part has a kinda irregular rhythm (wrt to the words) so we had to do it over and over and over again. lol. and it's for the workshop. don't they know there are small kids present?! should PG13 the song. haha!
have to prepare my timetable for next sem. i'm missing one module. i'm really really really really annoyed with nus, especially the maths dept. why? cos the maths dept didn't release the schedules for their tutorials and lab sessions making me unable to plan my timetable properly because i can't just blindly guess at what time those are. and so, it's being very difficult to grab another module cos i don't want it to clash with maths. sigh. AND, you know all that crap about the govt and the speak mandarin campaign? guess what. nus does not allow me to take chinese because i didn't score a B4 for my AO level chinese. what nonsense? i want to take chinese so that i can fulfil my requirements for asian studies. i'm not all that interested in studying about south east asia, or india, or japan. for once, i want to take chinese. and i can't. all those years of taking chinese for granted...
i don't know what's wrong with singapore english mediacorp these days. why can they not produce anything of substance? why is it that the only things they CAN do properly is pathetically lame slapstick comedies and food shows? i watched the first episode of "maggie and me". geez. how stupid can they get? i got the feeling that they're trying to copy "the ghost whisperer". the only thing i can say is, at least TGW has some class. english tv is going down the drain these days. singapore's standards have fallen so far, don't know if it's still worth redeeming. miss those old days when tv had some substance. eg, "growing up" (before the mother died), "under one roof", "war diary". even PCK used to be not bad. but now. M&M, ABC DJ, what da hell?!
i saw a bit of sg idol on tv mobile the other day. god. why do ppl delude themselves like that? the bit i saw was the ones on number 1 hits. the one that was most memorable was that girl who sang "there you'll be". grrr. i wanted to just slap her. who da hell let her through?! she totally slaughtered the song. and she's so obviously acting. what's with the crap about, oh, christina's my idol because she's so true to herself and i hope i can be like that too? puke. the others were only marginally better than her. (she didn't get eliminated, btw) so far as i've seen, the only one with a bit of standard is jonathan leong. mum absolutely loves him btw. keeps nagging me cos he's in nus, saying, oh you should get him to join the choir, try and pull him into st stephens. words cannot express my disgust. btw, interesting tidbit, to watch jonathan leong more, mum has discovered the joys of youtube. anyway. i think the judges are crappy too. is it just me? maybe i'm comparing them too much with AI. suddenly i really like simon cowell with all his straight talking, no bullshitting comments. the sg idol wannabes needs someone to tell them straight out, you slaughtered the song, what the hell are you singing, you suck. instead of all the sugar coating, oh, you weren't up to standard today, you could do better next time. i'm so evil. they should fire florence and hire mdm yew.
ok, moving on. some bad news. ah ma is in hospital. she got high fever the other day and pain in her right side. so, she's been there since wednesday. doctors are doing tests and all. they hope it's not cancer or whatever life threatening thing. as much as i've been ginormously irritated by ah ma since december, i'd still don't want whatever to happen to her. so ya. pray. still don't really know what's wrong btw. *rolls eyes* what kinda quack doctors are those??! tell you, if ever anyone i know becomes a doctor and comes up with crap like that, i'll not hesitate to give them a huge smack on the face.
and...for 'commemoration' (although i don't know what's so commemorative about it), this time last year, i was hospitalised for dengue fever. yup. anyway. that's that.
